Two of a Kind is an original textile mixed media artwork created with layered fabric, Czech glass beads, and crystals on cradled birch panel. Part of my Quirky Birds series within the Whimsical Companions Collection — characters who exist joyfully on their own terms, built entirely from layered fabric with a personality all their own — this piece reflects the beauty of companionship, how uniqueness and connection can exist side by side, and how two very different souls can find their perfect rhythm together.

Two wonderfully expressive bird companions share the composition in a moment of quiet, contented togetherness. On the left, a round and abundantly textured bird sports a body of deep navy and multicolored circle-print batik fabric — lively, energetic, and full of quiet complexity — topped with a small dark head and an oversized golden yellow beak. Its most magnificent feature is a wild crown of Czech glass bead antennae in every color of the rainbow — red, orange, yellow, green, teal, blue, purple, and pink — radiating outward in joyful, chaotic abundance like a celebration happening entirely on top of its head. Crystal accents catch the light throughout. On the right, a taller and more contemplative companion stands in deep purple fabric wings wrapped around a soft teal and lavender watercolor-print body — quieter in palette but no less present, its golden yellow beak and simple expressive eyes holding a gentle, steady gaze. Its own crown of deep purple Czech glass bead antennae curves gracefully outward with a more restrained elegance — the perfect counterpoint to its companion's exuberance. Between them, a beautiful printed fabric background tells the rest of the story — a delicate black and white botanical illustration of flowers, butterflies, and trailing vines lines the left edge of the composition, and in flowing cursive script the words "we'll always stay together" are printed softly into the fabric, a quiet declaration tucked into the art for those who look closely enough to find it.
