Stillness Between Us is an original textile mixed media artwork created with layered fabric and crystals on cradled birch panel. Part of my Quirky Birds series within the Whimsical Companions Collection, this quietly sophisticated piece reflects the beauty of presence — shared space, quiet understanding, and moments that don't need words.
Two bird companions rest together in a calm and beautifully balanced composition — their forms rendered in an extraordinary array of black and white patterned fabrics that give the piece a graphic, almost architectural quality entirely unlike anything else in the collection. The larger bird on the left is constructed from three distinct black and white fabric panels — a delicate botanical branch print at the top, a bold linear wave pattern at the center, and a dramatic dark floral and pod print at the lower body — each one distinct yet unified by their shared monochromatic palette. A single crystal catches the light at the chest with quiet luminosity. The smaller companion on the right mirrors this layered approach — its body built from a beautiful black and white botanical leaf and pod print fabric, overlaid with gold pen detail that traces delicate botanical forms across the surface. Its crystal eye holds a steady, contemplative gaze. Both birds stand on pen detail legs so slender they seem to float above the ground. Around their feet, a lush garden ground of layered fabric elements creates a vibrant counterpoint to the monochromatic birds — fabric flowers in hot pink, magenta, and soft blush with crystal centers bloom against a base of soft green leaf print fabric, with additional printed paper floral elements adding depth and botanical richness. In the upper right corner a magnificent fabric butterfly in deep green with pink floral detail and crystal accents adds a final touch of color and life to the composition.
