Morning Banter is an original textile mixed media artwork created with layered fabric and crystals on cradled birch panel. Part of my Quirky Birds series within the Whimsical Companions Collection — characters who exist joyfully on their own terms, built entirely from layered fabric with a personality all their own — this lighthearted piece captures the joyful rhythm of connection, those small, familiar exchanges that begin a day with warmth and belonging.

Two expressive chicken companions face one another in a moment of animated morning conversation — their rounded bodies constructed from beautifully distinct fabrics that give each bird its own unmistakable identity. The larger bird on the left sports a body of teal and aqua batik fabric printed with delicate white coral-like branch forms — organic, flowing, and full of quiet natural beauty. The smaller companion on the right wears a softer body of white and sage fabric printed with a delicate botanical leaf pattern — gentle, refined, and perfectly complementary. Both birds wear magnificent multicolored feather crests that fan upward in a joyful abundance of fabric feathers in teal, pink, rainbow stripe, polka dot, and botanical print — no two feathers alike, each one a small celebration of individuality.
