Champagne & Shenanigans is an original textile mixed media artwork created with layered fabric and crystals on cradled birch panel. Part of my Quirky Birds series within the Whimsical Companions Collection — characters who exist joyfully on their own terms, built entirely from layered fabric with a personality all their own — this delightfully irreverent piece celebrates the beauty of lighthearted moments, those playful, slightly unexpected interactions that bring joy and connection to life.

Two wonderfully expressive bird characters share the composition in a moment of pure celebration. On the left, a tall and lanky green bird stands with easy confidence — its rounded body constructed from a vibrant teal and green batik fabric alive with circular botanical forms, its long orange fabric legs planted firmly on the ground with the calm assurance of someone who always shows up exactly as they are. A curling purple fabric antenna spirals from its head with playful flair, tipped with a sparkling crystal that catches the light like a tiny exclamation point. On the right, a dramatically glamorous companion leans in with irresistible mischievous energy — its body a riot of multicolored feather-printed fabric in pink, teal, red, and gold, topped with an extraordinary crest of layered fabric in coral, teal, black, and green that fans outward like a theatrical headdress. Crystal accents punctuate the crest with jewel-like luminosity. Bold red fabric high heels plant this bird firmly in the territory of fabulousness, while green patterned fabric legs add a wonderfully unexpected contrast. A fabric beak in deep red carries a ladybug print detail — a tiny, private joke tucked into the composition for the careful observer. Between them, a champagne flute rendered in pen detail rises from the center — its bubbles suggested in gold, a toast to the moment. A printed blue butterfly hovers above, light and carefree. A delicate pen detail flower with crystal embellishment graces the lower left, while a pen detail leaf border grounds the composition at the base.
