A Shared Journey is an original textile mixed media artwork created with layered fabric, crystals, and Czech glass beads on cradled birch panel. Part of my Quirky Birds series within the Whimsical Companions Collection — characters who exist joyfully on their own terms, built entirely from layered fabric with a personality all their own — this piece reflects the quiet sense of connection found when two individuals move forward together, each with their own personality, yet clearly aligned in a shared path.
One vibrant and expressive, the other softer and more composed, the two birds create a gentle balance of energy and calm. Layered fabrics and playful pattern combinations bring each bird to life — the left bird bold and rounded in deep magenta, crimson, and pink patterned fabrics, her crystal-embellished leg detail catching the light with every glance; the right bird tall and elegant in soft sky blue and purple spotted batik, her tail feathers a cascade of black and white spirals punctuated with Czech glass beads and crystals that shimmer with quiet personality. Hand-applied crystals are scattered throughout the composition — in the head feathers, along the legs, and across the botanical ground — adding dimension and light to every corner of the piece. The two figures are set against a lively background fabric printed with an intricate black line botanical drawing, giving the composition depth and a sense of the wild, layered world these companions move through together.
