A Quiet Curiosity is an original textile mixed media artwork created entirely from layered fabric on cradled birch panel. Part of my Quirky Birds series within the Whimsical Companions Collection — characters who exist joyfully on their own terms, built entirely from layered fabric with a personality all their own — this gentle and thoughtful piece captures a moment of pure noticing, head slightly tilted, as if listening to something just beyond view.

A wonderfully expressive bird fills the composition with joyful abundance — its generous rounded body constructed from a lively multicolored checkered fabric in soft yellow, teal, orange, lavender, green, and pink, giving the form a patchwork quilt quality that feels both playful and deeply personal. Two magnificent wings wrap around the body — one in a warm red and orange floral fabric alive with yellow daisy forms, teal leaves, and botanical detail, the other a complementary red floral that frames the composition with warmth. A dramatic crest of jagged red and orange fabric fans upward from the head, crowned with a burst of bold floral fabric in yellow, green, and teal — extravagant, theatrical, and entirely itself. Two oversized eyes are the heart of the piece — each one constructed from a circular white fabric base with intricate pen detail mimicking decorative stitching around the iris, and a deep black fabric center that holds a wide, wonderstruck gaze of extraordinary expressiveness. A long orange feather beak tilts sideways with casual charm.
