Where Stillness Opens is part of Inherited Blooms — a deeply personal limited edition collection created in quiet collaboration with my late mother, an accomplished textile artist. The floral center of this piece was shaped and appliquéd entirely by her hand. I have completed each composition with layered fabric and crystal accents — her work and mine meeting in a shared space of memory, material, and meaning. Only 19 pieces remain in this collection.

A single blue iris-like bloom unfolds at the center of the composition with an unhurried, contemplative openness — its rounded petals constructed from inherited soft periwinkle blue fabric that carries a gentle variation of tone across its surface, deeper at the edges and softer at the center, giving the bloom a dimensional, almost watercolor quality that feels both painted and entirely tactile. Each petal radiates outward with the easy, natural grace of a flower opening in its own time, asking nothing and offering everything. At the very heart of the bloom, a magnificent faceted crystal embellishment catches and holds the light with extraordinary brilliance — a large central crystal surrounded by a starburst of iridescent crystal points that shimmer and shift with every angle of viewing, like light caught at the surface of still water. A distinctive striped gold and black fabric stem carries the bloom downward with a quiet, unexpected elegance — warm, graphic, and entirely distinctive among the Inherited Blooms pieces. Dark olive, forest green, and deep brown batik fabric leaves fan outward in multiple layers, each one distinct in fabric and tone, grounding the blue bloom with a rich, earthen botanical presence. A small pink fabric bud rises from the upper right with the tender promise of something not yet open. The inner background is the soft beige and white sheer check fabric that appears throughout the Inherited Blooms Collection — quiet, airy, and deeply familiar. The outer border is a deep navy blue liberty-style floral fabric alive with botanical forms in blue, teal, green, and soft coral — rich, refined, and deeply complementary to the periwinkle blue bloom within.
